Ampoule bottle

The ampoule bottle is a small sealed sample bottle made of glass, rarely made of plastic. They are used to package liquid medicines (usually injections) that must prevent air and other contaminants. The ampoule is hermetically sealed by melting the thin top under an open flame, usually by breaking the neck to open it. Glass ampoules are more expensive than some other types of drug packaging.

Vial

The vial is a glass or plastic container used to contain liquid, solid or powder dosage. They are usually larger than ampoules with larger capacities. For glass bottles, the closing options can be threaded bottles (closed with nuts or droppers), lip shaped bottles (closed with plastic stoppers or corks) or crimped bottles (closed with rubber stoppers and metal caps). Plastic bottles that can be molded with plastic can have other closure systems, such as a "hinged lid", which can be quickly closed when pressed. Unlike tubes that usually have a round bottom, the bottom of the vial is usually flat.

Blister packaging

Blister packaging, also known as blister PTP packaging, is usually used to contain solid unit dose of drugs. In Europe, 85% of solid unit dose packaging uses blister packaging, while only 20% in North America. Blister packaging is preformed plastic, paper or foil. The main element of blister packaging is a cavity or bag made of thermoplastic. It usually has a cardboard backing or a cover of aluminum foil or plastic film, which can be punctured by hand.

bottled

Bottles are often used for liquid medicines as well as prepared tablets and capsules. Glass is most commonly used in liquids because of its excellent barrier properties. Plastics are commonly used in tablets and capsules, especially bottles for prescription drugs. They have different colors, most commonly orange or light brown, because these colors prevent UV from damaging potentially photosensitive content while still allowing enough visible light to pass through to make the content easy to see.

Sachet packaging

Sachet packaging is a square or rectangular sealed bag, usually made of some kind of plastic. They are most commonly used in powders, but can also be used in liquids. They can be resealable or disposable sachets and are often perforated, so they can be easily torn by hand.
